Welcome to AMP's Mentoring Family page!
The mentoring families were first created in 2013 as another way enhance the community of underrepresented minority physicians. Mentoring families are composed of 10-15 members who are a mix of talented URM medical students, residents, fellows, and attending faculty with a wide range of interests and accomplishments from both UPHS and CHOP. The overarching goal is to provide a vertical and horizontal mentoring system so family members can serve as a source of encouragement, be a support network, and contribute to each member’s professional development throughout the year.
In 2020, the mentoring families initiative was renamed Mentoring In Inclusion and Diversity or MIND for short. MIND’s mission statement is to foster families of underrepresented minorities in medicine at all levels and empower them to succeed in their personal and professional lives. We hold several events throughout the year where we tackle relevant topics for URM physicians. Members love having small group discussions with their families, learning from each other, and sharing their experiences. Past events have included:
We encourage new medical students, housestaff and faculty to join our mentoring families early in the academic year so you can start building the longitudinal relationship with your family! To sign up for a mentoring family or for more information please send e-mail to: amp@uphs.upenn.edu |
